One of the notes titled Journal Page indicates that the bosses know their own names, and the note's author expresses surprise that they even possess a sense of self. However, the note Letter implies that some other Trace, in the company of a friendly Rusalka named Drushka, was present on Sudra long after someone named Athetos used a rebirth chamber. The dialogue leads you to believe that the player character Trace is a clone from an early "save file" of Athetos. The in-game dialogue and the English notes imply that the bosses are all variants of the Athetos identity. It may or may not help that the relationship of Athetos and Trace is complicated. Over a year since I first finished the game, and I have not yet puzzled out a fully consistent image of Athetos's motivations and goals. Finally, in the "best" ending, there's one added scene in which Spoiler.įrankly, I don't know what to make of all that. Athetos is outright stating that there's more to the story, and in his position it seems that there's little motivation for him to lie.
